Price: One of the things that you should understand is that these carts are not mass produced. Some carts have less than 10 units and the max for any one cart is around 45. To us, this was a neat idea turned into art project and not a big money making venture. If we can do something cool and support the artists that created them in the process, we would be doing what we wanted to make happen. We actually lowered the price as soon as we realized this could be successful and not completely drain us.
The vinyl: A lot of people seem to think this is a simple home made sticker we slapped on top on an existing cart. Not at all. They are professional grade vinyl with and extra gloss layer so that they will last much longer. We didn’t order them on a scale to get dirt cheap deals. The byproduct of that is, they aren’t exactly cheap to make. The original labels have all been removed from the donor carts (front and back) and replaced.
The art: Every single piece of art you see was created by one of our artists. These are not something tweaked in Photoshop. Originally we tried to make 8-bit carts and stick 100% to the true NES launch lineup color palette but it just didn’t work. Telling the difference in Halo and Killzone was the amount of grey and a little imagination. It just didn’t look great. Our artists wanted to make something with a little more depth to it. Nowadays, there are tons of automated things online to help you make true 8-bit characters. We wanted people to understand that creating neat original video game art is what we are about. Since this seems to be such and issue, I would also like to point out that the covers for many original NES games also weren’t in true 8-bit. This includes Super Mario Bros. and Metroid.
Donor carts: Many people have voiced concerned about us taking great games and destroying them. First, the game inside 100% still works. We did nothing to it. Second, we took a few hundred mass produced specific carts that were not really seen as artistic out of MILLIONS in existence. We care about gaming as much as anyone. We did this in the most responsible way that was possible.
Shipping: We currently ship to Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Mexico, New Zealand, Norway, Puerto Rico, Spain, Sweden, the United Kingdom and the United States. If your country isn’t listed, please shoot us a message and maybe we can add your country to the list.
U.K. And Canada orders: The Royal Mail often, for reasons we cannot understand, hold international orders for a month or even longer. There seems to be no rhyme or reason as to why they hold some orders. Most do get through on time but if yours does not, please be patient.
